With over 20 years of experience building community and working toward equity, Maria Luisa Jimenez started Mama Mia, a consulting company to continue the work of building bridges.
From being at the beginning phase of a start-up company creating employee resource groups to influencing corporate policy after same-sex marriage was legal, she has been a passionate leader in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion spheres.
Her experience being raised by a Caucasian foster family since the age of ten, forged this love of embracing differences and making connections in unexpected places.
She was born in Mexico and came to the US with her mother at a very young age. Maria Luisa learned to speak English by age eight. She experience a large cultural shock without her native tongue being spoken regularly with her new foster family.
It wasn't until she went away to college and surrounded herself with Spanish speakers from different countries, that she began to reacquaint herself with the language she was born speaking. She further refined her language skills when her children attended a Spanish bilingual school in the Bay Area.
